Drone Inspections
Drone Inspections vs Scaffolding: Which Is Right for Your Property?
Drone imagery can provide a useful visual record of roofs, facades, sites, and other hard-to-access areas. It can be a practical first step where the key question is visual condition or progress. It is not a replacement for physical access where hands-on testing, close investigation, or specialist assessment is required.
When drone imagery is useful
A drone inspection can help document roof cladding, gutters, flashings, upper-level facades, site progress, and visible maintenance concerns. It is particularly useful where access is constrained or where an owner, manager, or project team needs a current visual record before deciding what further work may be required. Flight planning must still account for the site, weather, airspace, and applicable operating requirements.
When physical access is still needed
Some issues cannot be resolved from imagery alone. If an inspection requires a material to be tested, an area to be opened, moisture or movement to be investigated, or a close assessment under a specific standard, physical access or a specialist assessment may be necessary. The appropriate method depends on the question being asked and the limitations that apply.
Choosing an inspection method
The right choice is not always one method or the other. Drone imagery may be used alongside a ground-level inspection to improve the available information. Before booking, explain the property, the decision you need to make, and any concerns that have already been identified. That allows the inspection approach and deliverable to be scoped properly.
Making the next decision
Visual imagery is valuable when it is tied to a clear purpose and reported with its limitations. It may help an owner or project team decide whether further access, repair planning, or specialist advice is needed. It does not prove the condition of hidden components or replace the type of testing required for every building, insurance, consent, or safety question.
